Chosen Poems: Words of Love

Chosen Poems: Words of Love (188 poems, 297 pages, published 2017)

In this book my poems very in structure and form: there are street poems, rhyme poems, free verse, lyric, story-ballad type poems, and a few Tritina style poems.
These love poems span the last forty-five years. It is a collection of assorted poems of found love, lost love, good love, bad love, first love, last love, young love, old love—and of longing, betrayal, forgiveness, sorrow, and happiness.

Four Pearls
A pink one
a black one
a gold one
a white one

Four beautiful pearls
all in a row
surrounded by diamonds
all set in gold
all for my sweetheart
she is my girl

A pink one
a black one
a gold one
a white one

They shine and sparkle
those little pearls
their luster and beauty
all for my girl
she is my darling
she is my world

A pink one
a black one
a gold one
a white one

Her ring to cherish
her ring to own
and I am her lover
to have and hold
she is my dear one
my lovely girl

A pink one
a black one
a gold one
a white one
—four little pearls for my girl.

Fresh Flowers for Your Hair

It is so long to songbird pools
no more pots and flowers
I have put up all my garden tools
gone are the warm sunlit hours
no more planting seeds
there is no more time to share
the garden will now grow weeds
there will be no fresh flowers for your hair

I will always be your lover
this you will always know
on this earth you have been my treasure
you have helped our flowers grow
a longtime we have been together
we have always shown we care
we really loved each other
but now—no more fresh flowers for your hair

You have left me this morning
as your sickness ends
the time has come
your life is done
I will be alone tonight
with my sadness and my plight
but do not worry love
some day we will reunite

I have always loved you
and you know your leaving hurts
but it was time for you to go
now—you have died and left this earth
I know your soul has risen
and I will see you once again
we will meet again in heaven
and I will have fresh flowers for your hair
darling—I know you will be waiting
for fresh flowers in your hair.

Fire Cracker

She’s a triple looker
she’s a high heat cooker
an every man distractor
a real fire cracker

She’s so damn appealing
—got me rocking and a reeling
I’ve got to embrace her
I just want to taste her

She’s a triple looker
she’s a high heat cooker
an every man distractor
a real fire cracker

She’s so super fine
I’ve got to make her mine
I just want to hold her
for one thousand hours

She’s a triple looker
she’s a high heat cooker
an every man distractor
a real fire cracker.

A Night Owl’s Moon

With drunken love under full moon dancing
they spend the night romancing

Two lovers of the night together
—but harmonic nights don’t last forever

Soon would come the morning sun
—and the night owl’s time done

The pale moon was fading fast
—one hour more at all to last

The lover’s moon in deep decline
to soon lose its nightly shine

And so the exciting night did ebb
and soon the moon was all but dead

When came a hint of gleaming light
and the sun began to rise

Their nudity again a curtain
their bodies clothed for daytime certain

Two lovers lost their moonlit love space
as another day became their work place

And their erotic night did fade away
so—the night owl and his lover meet the new day.

Waiting

This war last too long
come back where you belong
how long will you be gone?
I keep singing my lonesome song

Waiting—waiting by my phone
waiting home alone
waiting to say—your name
waiting drives me insane
waiting—waiting on a war
waiting that’s for sure
—will the sun come shining in?
—will we begin again?

Waiting for the sunshine
the clear blue skies—no crying eyes
waiting for tomorrow
another day—another year
and no more tears

Guess I’ve been touched
I’ve been missing you so much
all I want is your love
without it—my life’s been rough

Waiting—waiting by my phone
waiting home alone
waiting to say—your name
waiting drives me insane
waiting—waiting on a war
waiting that’s for sure
—will the sun come shining in
—will we begin again
I’m waiting.

Spellbinder

You tell your story well—Spellbinder
you say—you are a treasure
and you can give me pleasure
you say—you’re a good lover
you tell me you’re the one—Spellbinder
now—there’s been too much talk
show me—what you’ve got
put me in a whirl—Spellbinder
make love to me—extreme—Spellbinder
show me joy and bliss—Spellbinder

You say—you are my need
—that you can fill my wants
you say—you’re a good lover
you tell me you’re the one—Spellbinder
show me what you’ve got—Spellbinder
it’s time to get me hot—Spellbinder

You tell your story well—Spellbinder
you can really spin a tale
how you’ve got your love for sale
you say you’re a great lover
you’ve got my attention—Spellbinder
but there’s been too much talk
show me—what you’ve got
put me in a whirl—Spellbinder
make love to me—extreme—Spellbinder
show me joy and bliss—Spellbinder

You say—you are my need
—that you can fill my wants
you say—you’re a good lover
you tell me you’re the one—Spellbinder
show me what you’ve got —Spellbinder
it’s time to get me hot—Spellbinder.

Crested Butte

It was a black and white day
until the sun set
with its yellow orange glow
I sat there in the afternoon
and my mind drifted
—there was no high school
and a one pool table bar back then
it was a one stop sign town
with not one ski resort existing
I grew up outside of town
—near the Black Hills
out on a cattle ranch
on a high mountain meadow
anyway—the white winter had gone
the snows had melted
the blossoms bloomed
and the birds sang
the glacier lilies were out
and the ski season had ended
in the Elk Mountains
and the coming of spring
with no skiers and less tourists
had me reminisce and look back
—I wish now—that I did
—but I did not
ask her to marry me
she went on to marryanother cowboy
he was my best frienduntil then
—they went on to somewhere else
I stayed here in Crested Butte
in the high mountains
somewhat still a rancher cattleman
—but more a retired bus driver
for the school district
in this nowbig time tourist ski town
todayI sit here in springtime
with myself and a few birds
it’s a fair weather day for me—
but I’m bundled up
in my Mackinaw Jacket
and wearing gloves
I am comfortable holding and sipping
my hot black coffee
I bought from the espresso stand
across the street
today—I sit on a park bench
in Town Park by the 4-way stop
—an older single man
watching people and traffic
and thinking about life—
far away romance—and a love to be.

Am I Dreaming

And here you are
and here I am
you—a woman
me—a man

Am I dreaming?
is this real?
I cannot believe
just how I feel

Now your sweet love
sure is my key
you are the one
who set me free

Am I dreaming?
is this real?
I cannot believe
just how I feel.

In Checkmate

It was on my life’s chessboard
my queen she got away
I was left stranded
alone in my lost place
I thought I could make a move
but I had not a single play
her knight in his shining armor
—he had me in checkmate

I was the king of my castle
I thought my queen was safe
she was my woman
and I her manly mate
I thought it for a lifetime
but she played a different game
her knight on his guided horse
—he had me in checkmate

The knight
he came riding
on his jumping path
he made his moves
I did lose
my queen he did caress
it did not take long
—my queen was gone
and now—my life’s a mess

So—beware the knight on horseback
if he is in your game
he may steal your queen
and you—he will replace
in just a single move
he will remove you from your space
he will take away your lover
—he will have you in checkmate.

Memories Remain

You are gone now
but you left me with memories
and I am pleased they remain.

You will always remain
I shall not forget you now
I will always have your memories.

I am so grateful for your memories
my thoughts of you will endlessly remain
as your time has come now.

You are gone now but my cherished memories of you
will forever remain.
